This course will be interesting for me if…
- I consider problems logically and systematically.
- I think in a networked fashion and find mathematical questions gratifying.
- I want to meaningfully influence and optimize economic and societal processes.
What will I learn during the course?
The Technical Mathematics Master studies provide an academic and practical pre-professional training in applied mathematics. Students specialize in one of the following subjects: applied analysis; applied statistics and financial statistics; data security and cryptology; operations research. In the subject of specialization, value is set on the link between theory and practice. The focus herein lies in the application of models with the help of up-to-date mathematical software. A practical semester enables students to put what they have learned directly into practice whilst still studying. Generally, the topic for the diploma thesis (Master’s thesis) is derived from this practical semester. The course empowers students to take up higher positions in the area of applied mathematics. They also have the option of enrolling in a doctoral program and are qualified to collaborate on research programs.
What makes studying at the Alpen Adria University of Klagenfurt unique?
A special characteristic of the Technical Mathematics studies in Austria is the compulsory practical semester scheduled. Students can contribute to the handling of a practical problem in a firm of their choice in Austria or abroad, during one whole semester, gaining an insight into the world of work as they go. International experience and contacts also open up the possibility of studying or working at foreign universities for a while via exchange programs within the framework of the Bachelor studies. In choosing a specific area of focus, students deepen their knowledge in one of four strands of applied mathematics. In the concluding Master’s thesis they deal with the possibilities for practical implementation of what has been learned – this enables a direct entry into professional life. Well-trained, dedicated professors guarantee personal and individual student supervision. The size of the university and its facilities offers rapid development opportunities under intensive supervision, a good working environment and close cooperation in small groups.
Which occupational fields are open to me after finishing the Master studies?
Development in technical firms, software development, services in computer centers, business mathematics and risk management in banking and insurance, data security, activities in educational institutes, environmental technology, biomathematics in clinical and pharmaceutical applications and services in civil engineering.
