Information Technology – at the cutting edge of technology
The Alpen Adria University of Klagenfurt offers Information Technology studies on three levels that build progressively upon one another:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology
- Master’s degree in Information Technology
- Doctorate in Technical Sciences in the subject Information Technology
The three-year Bachelor course addresses, on the basis of mathematical and physical principles, the topics of electronics and circuits, signals and systems, measurement and control engineering as well as computer science and software development. Practical classes in laboratories equipped with the latest technology and seminars highlight the practical approach of the course. Moreover, complementary courses, in which soft skills and management competence are strengthened, allow students to expand their vision beyond the horizons of technology.
The two-year Master program ties in with the skills acquired in the Bachelor studies. It also contributes towards academic vocational training and qualification for professional responsibilities in the development and management of modern information and communication technology. If, however, you aspire to a career in science, you can prepare yourself for this accordingly within the course of the doctoral studies.
What is information technology?
Our everyday life is defined by information technology systems. We do our work on our Notebooks, listen to music on our MP3 players and are globally linked via the Internet and cell phones. Whilst travelling, we are assisted by our navigation systems. At the doctor’s, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment is employed. More and more, robots are assuming complex tasks in industry and in households. Networked sensor-actuator systems monitor, control and regulate physical and chemical processes.
Information technology is referred to when information is generated, processed, transported, stored and circulated by technical means. In the process, information is accumulated in various forms, e.g. as speech data, images, videos or measurement data.
Why information technology?
In order to promote innovation in information technology, highly trained and creative engineers are needed. They develop new concepts and products and provide services that, through information and communication technology, make living easier and more efficient and the world a little bit smaller. Rapid change is typical for this area; up-to-date products can quickly become outdated. For this reason, people who have enjoyed a broad, well-founded university education are particularly in demand. They are able to think analytically and grasp complex interrelations, allowing them to generate new knowledge and adopt positions of leadership and management convincingly.
