This course will suit me if…

  • I want to achieve a scientific qualification beyond the Master studies.
  • I enjoy scientific work.
  • I wish to scientifically investigate and verify an idea to improve the current state-of-the-art.
  • I want to elevate the state-of-the-practice on an empirical basis and contrast this with suggestions for improvement.
  • proactivity, drive and joy in further education are qualities I value in others and myself.

What will I learn during the course?

The form that the doctoral studies take lies mainly in the hands of the doctoral student. The study program merely prescribes formal general requirements in the form of several courses and seminars for doctoral students. In computer science, the results obtained in the course of the doctoral program are expected to be published at an international level. The review process of publications integrates, alongside both university tutors in direct contact with the student, the international community in the appraisal and advisory process.

What makes studying at the University of Klagenfurt unique?

The leaders of the computer science research groups are well established in the international community. For this reason, we can assure supervision and tuition of the highest quality. The obligatory courses will be closely related to your dissertation topic. These lectures will be held by top international researchers, most notably including many guest researchers. The neighboring Lakeside Science and Technology Park provides a great opportunity to establish professional contacts during your studies.

What are my career options after finishing my Doctorate?

In principle, the Doctorate qualifies you for a scientific career. This can take place in a university environment as well as in the field of industrial research and development.

Bakk.techn. Dipl-Ing.; Student of Computer Science

The Computer Science studies at Klagenfurt offer everything one wants and expects. You can take your time to contemplate problems, learn to think logically and always have new challenges. In addition, the supervision under the professors and assistants is fantastic, and you get to know them all personally. Now I am working as an IT coach and in this way, I can pass on the knowledge I have gained here to others.
